Teeth Whitening & Stain Removal
What is it?
Teeth whitening is a treatment for your teeth that removes discolouration and staining. The treatment will lighten and brighten your teeth, restoring them to their original shade.
How long is the treatment appointment?
90 minutes for an in-chair treatment.
How are teeth whitening and stain removal performed?
It is recommended as an in-chair treatment where a stronger and more effective concentration of professional dental bleaching products is used in conjunction with a professional dental cleaning to achieve the desired result. Depending on the type of teeth whitening, there may or may not be the use of a laser. We also offer home-whitening as well so you can achieve a brighter, more appealing smile from the comfort of your home.
Is the treatment painful, and are there any side effects?
With proper care and precaution, most patients should not feel pain during teeth whitening procedures. In some cases, however, tooth sensitivity or gum irritation can occur during or after treatment. For patients prone to tooth sensitivity, we can numb you up before the procedure to make it more comfortable. At the end of the appointment, each patient leaves with a professional dental desensitizing product to use at home for added comfort. Sensitivity associated with the whitening process should resolve within a few days after the treatment.
Who Is a Candidate?
- Patients who have noticed that the shade of their teeth has changed over time.
- Patients with extrinsic staining caused by lifestyle factors (a diet high in stain-causing foods and drinks).
- Patients who have good oral health.
This cosmetic treatment is not suitable for:
- Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Patients with significant dental erosion (consider other treatment options, e.g. crowns or veneers).
- Patients with teeth that are naturally more yellow.
- Patients with body dysmorphic disorder.
- Patients with visible restorations are advised to replace the restorations after the whitening treatment to ensure uniformity. If not, they will be unsuitable candidates.
What happens if I still have a little discolouration after the whitening results have settled?
Touch-up whitening syringes can be purchased at a discounted rate.
