Dermal Fillers

What is it?

Fillers are used mainly to restore facial shape and volume loss. They lift and tighten the skin and can also be used to soften lines, wrinkles and folds.

Fillers (such as Juvederm) are made of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and plumps the skin by improving its ability to retain water. Over time, the body loses hyaluronic acid, and the skin starts to sag and forms wrinkles and folds. Fillers replace the lost hyaluronic acid to restore volume and shape. The fillers are available in syringes and are gently injected into the areas of the face where they are needed.

How long is the treatment appointment?

It varies from 30-60 minutes.

How is dermal filler delivered/administered?

Needle or cannula.

What results can I expect?

An instant lift with a younger, fresher appearance. The results look completely natural and typically last 9-12 months.

Is the treatment painful, and are there any side effects?

Juvederm fillers are injected with tiny needles and contain a local anaesthetic (Lidocaine 0.3%) so that the treatments are almost painless. Hyaluronic acid fillers are safe and fully reversible. There may be some localised redness, tenderness, swelling and bruising, but these tend to be very mild and temporary. As with all injections, there is still a risk of infection, but this is very rare. More serious side effects and allergic-type reactions are extremely rare.

Who is an ideal candidate?

If you are 18 years or older and in good general health, with visible facial lines and volume loss (that is not excessive), you may be a good candidate for the procedure.
